The Central Bank of Azerbaijan has issued a Karabakh-themed AZN 20 banknote.
On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Central Bank, the issue was carried out as part of the rejuvenation of the national currency using the latest innovations and technologies available in world practice.
The main design elements of the coinage dedicated to the Karabakh motif are images of swords, helmets and shields that depict the power, strength and determination of the Azerbaijani people, as well as a number of design elements , including the word “Karabakh” and the symbol of victory – flower of Khari Bulbul.
The latest security features of the renewed AZN 20 banknote include 3D hologram, miraculous “Spark Live”, watermark, visually impaired recognition function, vertical design, security thread, intaglio printing, micro-texts, etc.
The Bank stressed that the new AZN 20 currency would circulate indefinitely alongside the old note of the same value and would be legal tender.
In line with global practice, the Central Bank regularly changes the design and security mechanisms of banknotes to improve the fight against counterfeiting and to take advantage of the latest technologies and innovations. In this regard, revised banknotes in the denominations AZN 1, AZN 5 and AZN 50 have been in circulation since the beginning of 2021.
The National Bank of Azerbaijan was established on February 11, 1992 by presidential decree and was renamed Central Bank of Azerbaijan on March 18, 2009. The main objective of the Central Bank is to preserve price stability within the framework of its legal authority, to organize and ensure the operation of centralized interbank payment systems and other unregulated payment systems, and to support the stability of the banking system.
